FMLA Leave
Time off can be taken for family leave which is defined as the birth and care of a newborn, adopted or foster child, care of an immediate family member with a serious health condition, or care of a resident’s own serious health condition. This is in concordance with the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Family Leave policy. Per the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), residents who are absent from work for Family Leave may continue at 100% of their salary for the first six weeks. Through the SJHS system, 12 weeks total allowance are available. Also recently added is our Parenting elective, typically done during traditional leave time, which facilitates continuity in the FMC, but also allows time for new parents (male or female residents) to spend more time at home with their newborn while doing self-study. This newly designed elective gives new resident-parents the opportunity to continue their residency education while caring for their newborn without having to extend their residency.
Meals
Meals are provided to residents while on duty in our hospital facilities.
Uniform Allowance
Upon employment, scrubs and lab coats are provided to each resident.

In addition to health, vision and dental, the following insurances are offered:

Saint Joseph Health System also offers a broad range of other benefits (403(b) retirement plans, legal plans, adoption program, etc.) for residents to purchase, or participate in, at minimal cost.*
