Musculoskeletal Medicine

Eight weeks total are required with 4‐6 weeks in orthopedics and 2‐4 weeks in sports medicine. Residents are supervised by Board-certified orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists within our Sports Medicine Fellowship. Training is received through didactic lectures, performance of sports physicals, workshops, sports medicine clinics, and on rotation. Residents may be required to assist the preceptor at designated sports physicals at local high schools and colleges.  Additional training in musculoskeletal problems will occur in the Family Medicine Center, during other rotations, and during didactics, in which experience such as joint examination and casting workshops take place during one's residency.

Some of the items include joint/muscle exams, fracture care, splinting and casting, indications for physical therapy, and evaluation and treatment of routine sports medicine injuries.
