Inpatient / Outpatient Chief

Third year residents serve as chief medicine resident both in and out of the hospital while on this rotation. The purpose of the chief medicine resident is to enhance the educational atmosphere of the rotation by providing educational support either with formal or informal teaching as well as providing supervision of junior residents and senior medical students. The Medicine service is supervised by the Family Practice faculty on call. As outpatient chief, 3rd year residents focus on ramping up their outpatient visits to prepare them for life after residency, while also being available to assist and mentor underclassmen while they adjust to resident life. The outpatient chief also serves as a back-up to the inpatient chief should situations arise where he/she is not available to be with their inpatient team.
