3-D Mammography
The best mammogram option for detection
The Paqui and Brian Kelly Comprehensive Breast Center (CBC) is committed to providing the technologies that will greatly improve the health of women in our communities. 3D mammography (also known as breast tomosynthesis) significantly increases the sensitivity of mammography screening. A 3D mammogram is a series of detailed breast images that allow the radiologist to better evaluate your breasts layer by layer, similar to a CT scan.
Benefits of 3D mammography
- More accurate. By using 3D mammography, doctors are able to screen for breast cancer with much greater accuracy regardless of a woman’s age or breast density.
- Fewer callbacks. Greater accuracy means better breast cancer detection and a reduced chance of you having to return for additional images.
The experience of a 3D mammogram is comparable to a 2D mammogram. The 3D mammogram scan takes less than four seconds and involves a low dose of radiation that is comparable to conventional 2D exams and well below the safe level set by the FDA.
No referral for a screening 3D mammogram is needed. To schedule a mammogram at the Paqui and Brian Kelly CBC, call 574.797.9185 or schedule online.
The 3D mammogram is covered by Medicare and some insurance. Please check with your insurance company to learn about your benefits. The CPT codes you may need are G0202 and 77063.
