Mammography

Mammograms: early detection is the best protection

Although 90 percent of all breast lumps are benign, breast cancer will affect one in eight women during their lifetime. The following precautions can help ensure early detection:

  • Monthly breast self-examinations (BSE)
  • Yearly breast examinations by a doctor or nurse
  • Regularly scheduled mammograms

If you have pain in your breast, a breast cyst or are concerned about a lump in your breast, we can help. Yearly breast examinations can find lumps that do not visualize well on an image, and mammograms can detect cancer too small to be felt. Early detection of breast cancer saves lives. At the Paqui and Brian Kelly CBC, we urge women to discuss when to start having mammograms with their primary care physician.

As a designated mammogram testing location, the Paqui and Brian Kelly CBC provides every patient with MammoPlus®, which is more than just a traditional mammogram. MammoPlus includes a 3-D mammogram and a lifetime risk assessment to estimate your chances of developing breast cancer in the future. If you have a first blood relative who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, you may want to get one earlier — up to 10 years prior to when your relative was diagnosed. Learn more about breast cancer risk factors and our RiskPlus™ program.

Screening vs. Diagnostic

screening mammogram is a proactive method used to ensure your breast health — whether you are concerned about a pain in your breast, a potential breast cyst or a lump in your breast. After capturing images during the screening, you will be free to go.

diagnostic mammogram is usually the result of a physician referral. It could be that you have a symptom of breast cancer or simply that a closer look is needed. During a diagnostic mammogram, we will look at the images while you are here.

Medicare mammogram patients are welcomed at the Paqui and Brian Kelly CBC.
