MISHAWAKA, Ind. (Feb. 18, 2021) — Health care workers are meeting the tremendous challenges of COVID-19 inside hospital walls while also navigating daily life during a pandemic. Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS) created the “Take Care Program” in summer 2020 to combat the stressors facing frontline colleagues that can lead to burnout. SJHS is grateful for a recent $10,000 donation from Macy’s in Mishawaka to aid this effort.

The Take Care Program provides resiliency tools, virtual “destress” webinars and dedicated staff as a long-term response to support the physical and mental well-being of SJHS colleagues. The Macy’s donation will help create “respite rooms” that will serve as quiet spaces for colleagues to go and decompress. Three rooms will be created, one each in the two hospitals and the administrative building, adding another layer of support to the “Take Care Program.” The funds will be used to purchase furniture, lighting, aroma therapy tools and plant life.
