Clinical Trials
Local cancer patients have the opportunity to participate in state-of-the-art cancer prevention and treatment clinical trials, due to SJHS's support of the Northern Indiana Cancer Research Consortium (NICRC).
The NICRC is a team of hospital systems that has joined together to support and advance cancer research in Indiana and Southwest Michigan. The NICRC provides access to nationwide cancer clinical trials that provide our patients with the most up-to-date care in our community. NICRC is a member of the Community Clinical Oncology Program, which is supported by the National Cancer Institute.
The mission of the NICRC is to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality by creating an opportunity for physicians and patients to participate in research and prevention trials and investigations.
- Patients who participate in a clinical trial will receive one-on-one care with a research professional
- Treatment sponsored by the NCI is designed by cancer experts and represents the final stage of a careful search for better cancer prevention and care
- The ultimate goal of the NICRC and our participation is to improve the lives of patients with cancer and to prevent cancer when possible
SJHS supports the NICRC by providing experienced research professionals for the Cancer Institute & Plymouth Medical Center. Our certified Oncology Nurses and Certified Clinical Research Professionals assist the physicians in presenting clinical trials, treatment medications and provide risk and benefits associated with each trial.
