At Saint Joseph Health System, Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) recommendations are based on a unified body of scientific research and recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and other leading organizations that specialize in disease management.
Our expert Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) are here to provide MNT for adult and pediatric patients. Individual nutrition recommendations and meal plans are used to aid in the treatment of specific medical conditions.

Individual Consultations Available
Outpatient appointments are offered at a variety of times to meet your needs. Individual nutrition recommendations and meal plans are used to aid in the treatment of specific nutrition needs and medical conditions. During the appointment the RDN will review what you eat and your eating habits, work with you to develop a nutrition treatment plan and set goals to measure your progress.
Diabetes Education and Group Classes
Taking Charge of Your Diabetes
This program is a must for those newly diagnosed with diabetes. It consists of nine hours of instruction by a nurse educator and a registered dietitian nutritionist.
Sessions include blood glucose monitoring, diabetes medications, sick day management, daily dining challenges and individualized meal planning.
Gestational Diabetes
Classes are offered weekly for mothers diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes to provide optimal nutrition guidelines for mother and baby.
Appointments and referrals
A physician referral for outpatient nutrition services is required and can be faxed to 574.367.7634. A primary care physician or specialist will coordinate with centralized scheduling to make the appointment. Call 574.335.4500 or 888.455.4450 with appointment questions or to make changes.
Insurance Coverage
Medical nutrition therapy services are covered by Medicare based upon physician diagnosis. Most commercial insurance providers cover nutrition counseling for a wide variety of chronic conditions and health concerns. Check with your insurance provider regarding coverage details.
