Saint Joseph Maternal Fetal Medicine provides specialized, individualized prenatal care including managing any pre-existing conditions. The facilities include on-site ultrasound and lab draws for your convenience. We will also coordinate care with your obstetrician for any care after delivery.

Maternal Fetal Medicine Services

• First trimester ultrasound screening -determination of due date, nuchal translucency measurement, evaluation of fetal nasal bone, determination of cardiac axis
• Targeted and routine fetal ultrasound
• Fetal echocardiogram
• Fetal procedures – amniocentesis, amnioreduction, amnioinfusion
• Maternal procedures – cerclage placement/removal, vaginal delivery, cesarean section
• Inpatient and outpatient consultations
• Genetic testing and counseling
• Pre-conception counseling because of poor obstetrical history, previous pregnancy loss or chronic medical conditions

• Cystic fibrosis
• Pre-term labor or a history of pre-term labor
• Premature rupture of membranes
• Pregnancy-induced hypertension (preeclampsia)
• Insulin-dependent or gestational diabetes
• Medical complications such as lupus, chronic hypertension or renal disease
• Blood group incompatibility
• Bleeding problems
• Multiple pregnancies
• Congenital abnormalities

Physician

Dr. Asad Sheikh

Dr. Sheikh is a board-certified OB/GYN with subspecialty certifications in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Medical Genetics. He has over 20 years of clinical experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine. Dr. Sheikh graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He performed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Oakwood Hospital and Maternal Fetal Medicine training at Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He received Medical Genetics training at the National Institutes of Health.

Our office is staffed with a genetic counselor, two sonographers and an experienced and supportive administrative team. You may be referred by your primary care provider to our team for one of the above services or to treat a specific condition.

Saint Joseph Maternal Fetal Medicine is located in the Medical Office Building connected to Mishawaka Medical Center.
