Excellence in patient care


At SJHS, we strive to ensure patient and family safety, comfort and satisfaction. Please share your questions and concerns with our staff. SJHS regularly measures patient satisfaction and compares it to other hospitals and national standards as we continue to make improvements. Should you need assistance, call Patient Relations at 574.335.2456 and your concern will be addressed. When you need information or assistance with anything, use the nurse call button to signal the nursing station and a staff member will respond.

Valuables


Please leave valuables at home. If you have valuables, such as jewelry and cash, please give them to a relative or friend to take care of during your stay. Contact lenses, eyeglasses, hearing aids and dentures should be stored in your bedside stand when not in use. Please don’t put them on your bed or food tray they may be damaged or lost. SJHS cannot be responsible for replacement of personal belongings.

If you bring valuables, we are not liable for their loss or damage unless you deposit them with us for storage in our safe. Notify your nurse if you would like Security to store your valuables.

Housekeeping


Housekeeping Upon Request is a service that allows patients to schedule their room cleaning whenever it is most convenient for them. Our staff can also supply patients with things such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, pillows, tissue, newspapers, extra gowns and blankets at the patient’s request.

Interpreters


Our Multi-Cultural Access program has translators available. Ask a member of our staff for assistance or call 574.335.7003 from the hours of 7am-7pm Monday - Friday and 10am -1pm on weekends.

Cellphones


Cellphone use is permissible inside the hospital, but we ask that visitors leave the unit or use the waiting area to make a call, especially if discussing private health information.
